Case Study
Create a success case for transformation of an entire value chain
The challenge
The EU uses 4 million (and growing) tons of flexible food packaging, where 80% are potentially “technically ready for recycling” with existing plastic streams, according to the CEFLEX consortium of stakeholders along the flexible packaging value chain. However flexible packaging is generally showing a lower recycling performance than other packaging.
What we want to achieve
We are helping the CEFLEX Consortium work towards their 2025 goal of closing the loop for post-consumer flexible packaging across Europe. Our goal is to understand barriers for recycling to a level of detail where they can be resolved. The study will be based on interviews with recycling bodies and companies, as well as other relevant stakeholder across Europe. More generally, we aim to create a success case for transformation of an entire value chain and derive best practices as a much-needed blueprint for action, as plastics are one of the first industries with a value chain approach to de-carbonie and close material loops.
