EIT Climate-KIC Post COVID-19 Regeneration Call
The background
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected our society around the globe. Beyond the healthcare crisis, we are also facing another global challenge: a shock to our economy tougher than any other since the 1930‘s Great Depression, according to IMF. As governments are discussing support for the industry, the discussion about a sustainable recovery from the crisis appears on the agenda.
Massive investments are needed to revive economies after the lockdown and simultaneously build resilience against other global threats, such as climate change. Addressing immediate health and economic needs is critical. However, longer-term investments to revive our economies must go beyond a recovery of what existed before the pandemic – and stimulate the shift to new economic models aligned with sustainable principles. This disruption could, in time, be understood as the single best opportunity to set in motion the transition towards a sustainable and resilient future.
The call
In response to the current situation, EIT Climate-KIC is launching the Extraordinary Post COVID-19 Regeneration Call 2020 to support a sustainable reboot of the economy and the shift to a new European model.
The call focuses on innovation projects which directly respond to and support emergence from the impact of COVID-19 and propose innovative solutions to address these impacts. The project must show the potential to stimulate economic regeneration within the framework of the European Green Deal – and deliver clear outputs in the form of products, services or solutions with clear market pathways by the end of 2020.
For more detailed information on the activities and projects targeted, please read the full Call for Proposals.
The procedure
Due to the urgent nature of the challenge, the Climate-KIC is operating a compressed timeframe, using a two-stage approach:
Stage 1: Expression of Interest, 11 May 2020 – 22 May 2020 (17:00 CET)
Stage 2: Full Proposal, 12 June 2020 (17:00 CET)
The stages are sequent, thus only successful Expressions of Interest from Stage One will be invited to submit Full Proposals.
The submission of applications can only be done through the Climate-KIC‘s electronic platform Plaza and to submit, you must be registered. Please note, if you do not have access to Plaza yet, please register well in advance, latest 5 working days ahead of the deadline, as registrations received later may not be processed in time. Please also make sure not to submit last minute to avoid any local IT issues causing failed submissions.
