Workshop about the Current Status and Future Options of Regional Blockchain Networks at Wuppertal Institute
Within the framework of eCircular´s pathfinder project of Regional Blockchain Networks, twelve selected experts along the whole plastic value chain from Germany and the UK were invited to a workshop about regional blockchain networks and waste prevention at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.
Key findings
Creating markets for plastics waste prevention
During an intensive day of discussions, participants agreed on the need to generate, transmit, analyse and store reliable and safe data to create markets for plastic waste prevention. On the formal basis, applications to higher investment products and incentive-oriented-systems are seen as essential. Particularly smart contracts will be a central item of future blockchain projects.
Shaping digital solutions
Key solutions will likely come coupled with further developments in digital technologies such as IOT (Internet Of Things) and AI (Artificial Intelligence).
However, the workshop is meant to be just one more step forward in exploring the possibilities of blockchain in the context of plastic waste prevention. Further research will follow. To find out more, please join our upcoming webinar.
